The land and building that used to house the General Amherst High School was sold to a private developer (Valente Development Corporation) in 2024. They are working on a redevelopment plan with some mix of residential, commercial and public space that could include the possibility of moving the Amherstburg Town Hall offices there.

Prior to reading this, which best describes what you knew about the General Amherst High School redevelopment?

What is your reaction to the idea of potentially moving the Town Hall into the former General Amherst High School building?

Right now there is a baseball diamond on the land that is part of the redevelopment site (Bill Wigle Park). The redevelopment plan could include converting the baseball diamond into an open public park or “civic esplanade” with walking paths, seating and open space.

What is your reaction to the idea of potentially converting the baseball diamond to a public “civic esplanade” style park?

The Town of Amherstburg will be hosting a Public Open House meeting to review and provide feedback on the Valente redevelopment plan this coming Saturday, October 5th from 10 am to 12 pm at the Libro Centre.

Do you plan to attend?

Any other comments or suggestions about the redevelopment of the former General Amherst High School building and land?
